Review

Written in Black, like their debut, These are the Secret Sounds of Fear, reflects White Circle Crime Club's schizophrenic view on music and recording. They are aware of the history of punk and new wave but, at the same time, are eagerly willing to destroy and deconstruct what makes these genres so boring. While the aforementioned EP couldn't quite capture the live feel of the band, Written in Black provides at least a glimpse of the noise, energy and sweat that this band is all about. Written in Black is White Circle Crime Club more outspoken than ever, with the right amount of hooks, subtlety and youthful energy - tight at one moment, sloppy the next, but always brilliantly honest.
