Review

With their third full length album, WAXWING focuses on a harder musical thread not this insistent since their debut full-length, For Madmen Only. Nobody Can Take What Everybody Owns is unquestionably WAXWING's most linear and aggressive work to date, yet is as always laden with the emotional seeds of regret, melancholy and hope that WAXWING weaves so effortlessly and passionately into their layered musical tapestry. Exploding out of the blocks, "Everything's On Fire" showcases WAXWING at their most propulsive, energetic and pounding, setting the tone throughout with an almost punk-like aesthetic and energy added to WAXWING's patented Americana, indie and rock lexicon. "Colour" continues the theme of a more unrestrained WAXWING, as does "The Gift of Light," while WAXWING's contrasting melody and moments of restraint only gives clarity, impact and depth to their "rock," as on "The Worst Kind of Liars" and "(Deleporte)." Musically, WAXWING has never been as complex! , rocking, varied or dynamic, while Votolato's brooding, passionate voice has never been so forceful or compelling, making Nobody Can Take What Everybody Owns WAXWING's most powerful statement yet.
