Review
TILES is a progressive modern rock band from Detroit, MI. Currently signed to Magna Carta Records in North America, TILES was formed in February 1993 and released their self-titled debut album "tiles" in the spring of 1994. The past seven years have seen the band develop and refine a sound that blends progressive rock overtones with an aggressive hard rock edge. Merged with lyrics of an "observational" or "humanistic" quality, TILES continues to cultivate a sound that demands more than passive listening.
Ian Anderson of JETHRO TULL kindly offers his endorsement: "TILES are undoubtedly one of the brighter hopes for the musical millennium! They manage to combine the presentation skills and rich musicality of the Progressive Rock 70's with a hard-edged realism which perfectly fits the turn of the century."
TILES reached the international music scene in 1995 when POLYDOR released "tiles" throughout Europe on their Dream Circle Records label. Sales were strong with the help of excellent reviews from Aardschok in the Netherlands (91/100), SCREAM in Norway (6/6), Rock Hard in Germany (8/10), and others. On the opposite side of the world, TEICHIKU Records developed new artwork designs and released "tiles" throughout Japan. BURRN! Magazine rated "tiles" an 88/100 saying "...(tiles is) a wonderful album with a very high level of technique and a great melodic sense..." The disc entered the BURRN! sales chart at #47.
