Review

Often derided as one-hit wonders (for the 1980 hard-wave anthem "Turning Japanese"), or as imitators of the mid-period Jam, the Vapors were nevertheless a fine and worthy band whose two LPs have weathered extremely well. The evidence: They've spawned more greatest-hits packages than they had albums. Anthology is the best introduction, with the entire US version of their debut, New Clear Days, and four-key tracks (including "Jimmie Jones") from Magnets. It omits the latter album's great "Daylight Titans," but you can't have everything on a single CD. For New Clear Days and some single A- and B-sides, try the Turning Japanese collection. For both of the original albums and no frills, try the Vaporized double-CD set. --Gavin McNett This is the 1st domestic compilation from this British new wave/power-pop combo best known for their hit 'Turning Japanese'. Contains that song, plus all of the other tunes from the U.S. version of their debut album 'New Clear Days', plus 4 tracks from their second album 'Magnets'. 14 tracks.
