Review
The New Power Trio's eponymous debut highlights their innovative sound and compositional savvy. Recorded after an extensive tour, the band is expanding the sound of piano jazz by using hand percussion instead of drum kit. Tunes range from introsepctive (Persons Unknown, Serenade) to raucous (Wolof, Yes and No). African and Cuban influences are apparent in many tunes. This record is a must for both piano jazz fans and World music aficionados.
