Review

"Back for Seconds" was well received by radio in Houston. The Cd has some commercial appeal but also delves in to blues, acoustic jazz, fusion, and high octane latin jazz. The second cd helped solidify the Mark Dini Group in to a mainstay for live and recorded jazz in Houston. You will hear guitar influences ranging from Pat Metheny, Wes Montgomery to blues greats Albert Collins and Duane Allman, as well as Eric Johnson, Larry Carlton and Robben Ford. The guitar sound is complemented with a full band including very good playing from piano, B3 Organ, sax, percussion, bass and drums. Also there are three tracks with vocals. Two have a pop/r&B vibe while one is pure gut-bucket blues. The cd winds up with a tribute to Miles Davis with "Don't Lose Your Cool" which is reminiscent of the "Amandla" and "Tutu" cds by Miles.
