Review
Spitalfield returns with Stop Doing Bad Things a fine album that demonstrates a marked leap forward from the Chicago-based outfit's 2003 release Remember Right Now. While still reminiscent of Jimmy Eat World, the quartet shows signs of reaching beyond the borders of the emo nation with tracks such as the opening "So, I Heard You Joined A Convent," with its occasional (albeit smoothed-over) post-hardcore tendencies and the unapologetically aggro beats of "What Were You Thinking." As you might expect the choruses linger, the bass lines bob and the guitars and vocals feel like the moment before new love's first kiss on a darkened side street on the best night of the summer. But what the album really demonstrates is that the band's apprenticeship is over, that Spitalfield seems ready to climb to its creative summit, sans fear, with an ever-widening throng of fans behind it. --Jedd BeaudoinChicagos SPITALFIELD have built a huge fan base amongst fans of rock, emo and pop/punk by delivering infectious, crunchy songs that seem to grow in complexity with each listen.
