Review

"See the sounds from all around, they flow right through me and you." This is Silver Sunshine - four souls painting a colorful picture of timeless, melodic, effects-laden pop with their music. Formed under the winter sun of December 2001 in San Diego, Richard Vaughan (guitar, vocals), Conor Riley (guitar, vocals), Stuart Sclater (bass, vocals) and Iain Sclater (drums) were brought together by their love of lysergically-coated, well-crafted pop psychedelia…and a desire to find innovative ways to create a modern sound reminiscent of their inspirations. In October of 2003, a three-song demo found its way to Wishing Tree Records who, being so utterly impressed by only the rough mixes, signed the band to their new Empyrean Records imprint within the week. Soon after, they began to notice an overwhelming interest from other labels, which were making it quite clear that the sought-after group was already developing an underground buzz before their first album was even recorded. Demo versions of their songs were mysteriously finding their way to college radio stations. Club promoters were calling to request tour schedules. Silver Sunshine disappeared for eight months to record their debut masterpiece with producer Mike Kamoo at his San Diego based Earthling Recording Studios. What came out of these sessions? An incredibly well thought out, groundbreaking debut that has the power to restore your faith in music. Reading between the lines, they discovered the lost chord, drawing inspiration from The Beach Boys, The Kinks, early Pink Floyd and, dare we mention, The Beatles! Isn't it about time that the music out-weighed the hype? Anyone who has numerous, worn-out copies of The White Album or Pet Sounds will know what we're talking about. We need a refreshingly innovative album with a versatile sound that never gets old. Here is Silver Sunshine!
