Review

Alternative country rock in the best of the west coast singer-songwriter tradition. Singer-songwriter Peter Bolland sounds a bit like Neil Young, James Taylor and Tom Petty kicked off the back of a flatbed truck on a dirt road outside of Bakersfield. A little bruised, a little regretful, more thoughtful than angry, but some of both. Acoustic guitars chiming like bells, kick drums thumping like hearts, snare drums cracking like gunshots, lap steel guitars crying like motherless babies, harmonica's wailing like humpback whales on peyote, and Gram Parsons-Emmylou Harris harmonies all provide a vivid aural landscape for Bolland's mournful tales of life and love in the American field of dreams. Too rock to be Americana, to country to be rock, and not country enough for country, it seems alternative country rock is the best category for "Frame".
