Review

Nick Moss has his priorities straight—on the bandstand and in the studio. Having toured extensively as a member of the Legendary Blues Band and with the late Chicago master Jimmy Rogers before setting out on his own, Nick soaked up the right influences during his formative years to keep the classic Windy City sound alive and kicking. His brand of blues is resolutely traditional in scope and permeated in rich, ears-open ensemble playing, yet his youth and enthusiasm keep things lively and contemporary. Nick keeps his guitar work precisely to the point and razor-sharp, his vocals are confident and convincing, and he's a prolific songwriter. His debut album First Offense was uncommonly solid, and the impressively varied Got A New Plan promises to further spread the word that Nick Moss is a young Chicago bluesman worth watching and hearing. —Bill Dahl
