Review

Pure original, classic and contemporary acoustic folk, informed and seasoned by over 30 years of concert, coffee house, and college performances. "Outside the Family Way" is a perfect introduction to the style and repertoire of this veteran American singer/songwriter/performer. The title song, "Outside the Family Way," may be the only current song celebrating women and men, like Mark, who have chosen not to have children. On five songs Mark is accompanied on guitar and harmony vocals by long-time musical associate Bob Reid.

In addition to Bradlyn's original works he also features songs by his Bay Area colleagues Carol McComb and Ed Johnson as well as fresh arrangements of songs by Tim Buckley, Ferron, Eric Anderson and Alan Fraser. There is a quiet intensity to this recording that will reward repeated listenings.
