Review

Major Figgas add to Philadelphia's renowned international sound with their debut offering, Figgas 4 Life. With over a dozen tracks, this album touches on everything from gangsta glory to girly glitz, as when Bianca The First Lady shines on her solo "Don't Let a N**** Stress U Girl." For the rest of the album, the Figgas cash in on cuts like "Yeah That's Us," with its strummed beat, and their early street salute, "Ya'll Can't F*** With Da Figgas." Both of these tracks come complete with infectious choruses. The Figgas fall short, however, on production choices and lyrical content on the sluggish "I Love Being a Gangsta," and the anti-hater attempt at an anthem, "It's Our Life," which carries an excruciatingly annoying hook. In spite of these few weak joints, this seven-piece group synchronizes their music and vocals well, producing a competitive album of crew cuts. --Elon D. Johnson
