Review

Lola Hum is a Seattle based band. This is their debut release. They are a mix of alt-rock and pop. Some heavy guitar with a slight Neil Young influence, some cello sweetening and a solid rhythm section. The music is highlighted by a female vocalist whose unique vocals sound Cowboy Junky-ish at times, Tori Amos-ish at times, but mainly she has a very distinct voice that gives the music an interesting sound when mixed with the heavy guitars and rhythm section. The harmonies are also unique -- sounding sometimes like X, and sometimes like Sinead. It's almost as if Tori Amos or Sinead or Fiona Apple had a rock band that listened to too much Crazy Horse, Uncle Tupelo and Grant Lee Buffalo.
