Review

After APHRODITE'S CHILD, VANGELIS and SOCRATES during the Seventies, Greece wakes up a second time for Progressive Rock. In the forefront of this new generation, LA TULIPE NOIRE is a classical-built quintet. This gifted band plays a delicate and muffled neo Progressive, developing itself into solemn and baroque melodies. Singer IMA's clear and pure vocals can be compared with Virginia ASTLEY's. S. KONTAKIS' guitar is very much inspired by David GILMOUR, as ALIX's keyboards play discreet layers embellishing precious and melancholic themes. About the rhythmic section, drummer Nick KASSAVETIS and bass player HYDE, the least we can say is that everything's solid and in the right place. Partly abandoning the traditional MARILLION influences, "Faded Leaves" (2002) develop a sound of its own, still keeping the trumps that made "In The Gates Of Dream" (1996) & "Shattered Image" (1999) so much charming. Pick this rare flower as soon as possible: it's going to nicely illuminate your secret garden devoted to Progressive Rock…
