Review
The Mexican pop group Kabah takes its name from a 10-chambered, ancient Mayan structure and mystical energy zone in the Yucatán Peninsula. The name roughly means "Temple of Masks." Since Kabah's 1993 debut, this talented sextet of singers--Federica, André, Maria Jose, Sergio, Daniela, and René--have fully revealed their up-to-date take on Latin pop. On this CD, their third release, they place urban dance grooves at the top of their musical altar; there's no ballad in sight on this set. High-energy techno beats percolate club-friendly cuts such as the title track, while "Nada Que Perder" rocks with a strobe-light-happy bounce that would make Giorgio Moroder smile. "Ven" rolls with a rave ritmo (with a little rap thrown in), and "Es Como Es" is just funky enough. The group's harmony is tight, and the prominence of the girls' vocals out in front make this outfit fun to listen to. Eugene Holley, Jr.Warner Music Latina. 2002.
