Review

Cali reggae tends to broadcast an ernest, beachy vibe that has little or nothing to do with today's Jamaican product and everything to do with yearning for moist, back-in-the-day dreams of One Love. You don't have to hail from Yard to make reggae, but nothing hits harder or deeper than the real Jamaican t'ing, y'all. Maybe it's their hometown Saratoga mineral water, but Dub Nation practices their multi-culti, one-world reggae style with more skill and conviction than many of their American peers. Dub Nation can be proud to stand on their own ground, although it must be said that this outing surely benefits from Jamaica's Earl "Chinna" Smith working his six-string magic on tracks two through 12. --Elena Oumano
