Review

Call Me Lonesome, the new disc from Arizona's Dave Insley, features guests Rosie Flores, Rick Shea (Dave Alvin), Ron Rutowski (Glen Campbell), Danny White (Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers), Steve Larson (Dead Hot Workshop, Peacemakers), PH Naffah (Refreshments, Peacemakers), Mario Moreno (Forbidden Pigs), Diana Lee and Chris Gough. Ten original songs amply demonstrate Insley's range, moving easily from classic Honky-Tonk to Bluegrass, Tin Pan Alley and Rock. A special treat for Americana listeners is Insley's duet with Rosie Flores on "Maricopa Mountains," while R&B fans won't want to miss guest vocalist Diana Lee on "Own a Mountain." Always central to the proceedings are Insley's amazing vocals, a deep, rich baritone, the perfect match to his unique songwriting. From his early days with cowpunks Chaingang and Politics or Pontiacs, in the mid 80's, thru his more recent work with newgrassers The Nitpickers & hell-raisers Trophy Husbands, Insley has matriculated into a full-blown Americana artist.
