Review
DJ Spinna's addition to the Beat Generation series seems almost obvious. His diverse resume exemplifies BBE Records assignment to give the best producers the freedom to make quality music without the distractions imposed by the traditional A&R paradigm. Here To There is an all-encompassing Soul record, but undeniably Hip Hop throughout. Its sophistication is a nod to the days when Hip Hop, House, Disco, Funk and Electro were one in the same, but is also unapologetically contemporary. Here To There unfolds like the journey its name suggests. From the omnipotent groove of the 'Intro' to the contagious baseline and vocoder hook of the first single 'Drive', the turntablism of Rock (Unplugged), Apani B Fly and Jean Grae's intelligent and acutely paced flow on Dash, the jazz syncopation and fluidity of Vinija Mojica's vocals on Idols, Here To There fills a noticeable void in the market.
