Review

Cyndi Thomson has the stuff. The 24-year-old Tifton, Georgia, native has fashioned a remarkable first album of genuinely personal yet very catchy tunes, each expressing an individual point of view. Beneath Thomson's perfectly appointed, label-friendly presentation lies something far more difficult to achieve: her ability to make important points without sacrificing charm. And although she appears winsome, almost fairytale-fanciful at times, there's also a whiff of Southern Gothic about her and a knack for peeling back the edges to reveal darker truths about people and what's in their hearts. The simple fact is, Cyndi Thomson is both an intriguing personality and a very good singer. --Henry Cabot Beck
