Review

Should Confusion is Brandon Patton's first solo album since 1997. Like a musical Dave Eggers, Patton tries to get personal and vulnerable while trying to navigate the inherent cliches in writing about himself. The mostly acoustic guitar based songs vary from unplugged rock to alt country, and from studio pop to bedroom recording. As far as musical intent, file near Badly Drawn Boy, Elliot Smith, the Eels, and Beck-- with a little Wilco, Paul Simon, Tom Waits, and Ani DiFranco thrown in.
