BOAT began in 2004 as a basement dream of D. Crane when he moved back to Seattle armed with good friends, cheap guitars, a half-broken Wurlitzer, a squeaky drum set, pizza, and diet soda. It has since blossomed into a reality of good friends, better guitars, a half-fixed Wurlitzer, a half-broken theremin, a non-squeaking drum set, a few cheap keyboards, ridiculous amounts of hand claps, calzone, and diet soda. They have completed two short West Coast tours, played live on KEXP, and performed increasingly sweaty shows at various Seattle venues. In local papers, their sound has been compared to indie rock luminaries The Kinks, Pavement, The Modern Lovers, Neutral Milk Hotel, Quasi, and The Shins. Songs That You Might Not Like features seventeen tracks of sweaty, homemade, sloppy pop that will get stuck in your brain and make you feel cooler than you really are.
